Latham's Track, Awakeri

Latham's Track is found on the outskirt of Whakatane in Awakeri and it is a hike that goes through farmlands and the ngāhere (forest). This walk has been something we have both wanted to do for a while and Anzac Day provided a beautiful day to finally tick this one off the list.

It took 40 minutes to climb to the top, where we saw breathtaking views of Whakatane, Edgecumbe, Matata, Moutohora (Whale Island) and Whakaari (White Island). It is a moderate to intense track and with the change of seasons and lack of cardio, I got wheezy from having asthma halfway up. So if you do have asthma, please ensure to have it with you or take it before you begin, you do not want your partner or anybody to worry about whether your going to make it or not haha.

All in all it is an amazing track that provides a good excuse to get active and out amongst nature. Highly recommended to anyone who is passing through Whakatane and to those who live in the area.

Watch my vlog below for an insight of our mission up Latham's Track.

Ngā mihi,
